PATV Receives 2008 National Award for Overall Excellence in Public Access”
The Alliance for Community Media has announced its 2008 Hometown Video Awards. Hometown is local cable’s largest video award festival. The Hometown Video Awards accepts non-commercial programming from media professionals, non-professionals and youth.
The 2008 “Overall Excellence in Public Access” award is given to an access organization for excellence in their overall operational activities and programming efforts for the year 2007. The Great Neck/North Shore Public Access Television Corporation (PATV) was awarded this honor based on an overall description of the PATV Access organization and the compilation tape “A Window to the Community” directed by Executive Director, Shirley Ann Bruno, and edited by Technical Coordinator, Erica Bradley. The 2007 PATV compilation tape consists of clips of the diverse community related programming which is cablecast on our channel. In November 2007, PATV was also awarded “Outstanding Achievement for a Public Access TV station” at the Alliance for Community Media’s Northeast Region Fall Video Festival. In 2004, PATV was awarded “Overall Excellence” from the Alliance for Community Media.
Additional local winners are Bonnie D. Graham, PATV producer and Board member in the category of: “Website for Producers-Non-Professional”, for her entry – http://web.mac.com/bonniedgraham/BonnieTVRadio and Theressa DuBois, PATV producer and CEO of the Deaf Welcome Foundation in the category of “Making A Difference” for her entry of “Equal Access Sign Language Television: “Our Advocate”. The awards will be presented at the National Conference on July 10 in Washington, D.C.

The Great Neck/North Shore Public Access TV Corporation,
located in Lake Success has been selected as a winner in the
Overall Excellence in Public Access TV category of the 2004
Hometown Video Festival. This is the only national video festival
honoring producers and organizations for the best in local
programming. Shirley Ann Bruno, the Executive Director, received
this award at the Alliance for Community Media International
Conference "Hometown USA" Awards Event in Tampa,
Florida on July 8th.
PATV submitted a compilation tape, clips of this past years'
programming, which was created by Erica Bradley, PATV technical
director, and support information which explained "how
this access center uses its resources to empower institutions
and individuals to become speakers and information providers."
According to Deb Vinsel, Alliance for Community Media Hometown
Video Festival Coordinator, "this year the festival received
more submissions than in the past in the overall excellence
divisions. This year the judges were looking for Public Access
centers who demonstrated excellence in programming and community
communications."
According to Shirley Bruno, the Executive Director, "this
is a great honor for local community TV. PATV has been recognized
on a national level for its work in promoting and producing
television programming of an educational, literary, cultural
and civic nature. I am pleased by the national recognition
in this our 20th year of serving the community."
The Public Access TV Corporation cablecasts daily on Channel
20 on the Cablevision system in the incorporated villages
of Great Neck/ North Shore and simulcast to the entire Town
of North Hempstead twice a week on Channel 20.
